Glen Mies is a multidisciplinary artist whose work ranges from representational to purely abstract. Born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1983, and raised mostly in the nearby town of Kingman, he attended the University of Kansas and earned a BFA with an emphasis in printmaking in 2007. His paintings, drawings, poems, songs, photos and performances have been inspired by such varied interests and experiences as comic books, depression, death, substance abuse, drag queens, travel, cowboys, wildlife, sexuality, antique restoration and art history. Since 2022, after completing treatment for leukemia and then getting sober, Glen, who lives and works in Kansas City, Missouri, has been reclaiming his relationship with creativity, both building on past work and applying a new perspective in order to move forward and learn to receive the gifts and lessons that art has to offer.
